These iOS 11 Features Can Just Turn You On Rightaway

The new Dock is a foundational change for iPad. It’s now available from any screen. So with just a swipe, you can open and switch apps instantly. And you can customize it with more of your favorite apps. The Dock also changes as you work. Intelligently suggested apps — like ones you opened recently and the last one you were using on your iPhone or Mac — appear in the right side of the Dock.

3: Powerful Slit View for multitasking

iOS 11 makes it easier and more intuitive than ever to multitask. You can open a second app right from the Dock, and both apps remain active in Slide Over as well as Split View.

You can drag the second app in Slide Over to the left. And you can get back to your favorite App Spaces in the redesigned App Switcher.

4: Do not Disturb While Driving

Apple is doing its part to eliminate distracted driving. Your iPhone can now detect when you’re in a moving vehicle and can, if you want it to, automatically enable Do Not Disturb While Driving.

5: Insert a drawing in Mail

There are times when the best way to explain something is to draw a picture. When composing an email, long-press and then select Insert Drawing from the pop-up. Draw, sketch or play tic-tac-toe and send it on its way.

6: Take Notes right from the Lock screen

You can now add a shortcut to the Notes app in iOS 11’s revamped Control Center, and access the Notes from the lock screen.

Hidden in Settings > Notes is an option to select whether you want Notes to open the last note you edited, or if you want to create a new note every time you access Notes from the lock screen.

7: An alternative Shut Down button

If your power button breaks, you can still turn the phone off with a new Shut Down option in Settings > General. To turn your iPhone back on, you’ll need to have a charging cable handy, as the iPhone will turn on the moment it’s plugged in to charge.

8: Drag and Drop Text

As you can see above, it’s now possible to drag and drop text from one place to another, within the same app or document. To do that, highlight and then press on a word or highlighted section to drag and drop it into other location.

9: An all-new Photo/Video format

Apple now has a new photo and video file format starting with iOS 11, which is called HEIF/HEVC. If you aren’t comfortable with it or you are running into compatibility issues, you can revert back to the older format.

10: One-handed Keyboard

With iOS 11, Apple has added a one-handed keyboard option to the iPhone. You can now type/text with just one hand and use the other to hold your cup of coffee. Below are simple ways to get it turned on.

  • Go to Settings > General > Keyboards > One Handed Keyboard
  • You can also activate it by long-pressing on the emoji or globe icon on the keyboard

You can select a right or left-handed keyboard, and switch back to a full keyboard either by following the same steps outlined above, or tapping on the arrow placed next to the keyboard.
